1 - Grand Illusion Garden - 2705 E. Mt. Vernon Dr.

A labor of love.  A cozy corner nook lot that is an assault on all of the senses–inhale the sweet floral fragrances.  Close your eyes and listen carefully to the flowing water and the delightful birdsong.  Open your eyes and take in the plant structure and rich color.  You’re gonna appreciate this colorful display and the gardener’s simple philosophy–“I might not know what it is but if I like it, I plant it.”  Winner of Spokane’s May 2008 Garden of the Month Contest.

Directions:  From I-90/Ray/Thor exit, head south.  Turn right on 17th Ave.  Turn left on Mt. Vernon.  Garden is on the left corner of Mt. Vernon and Mt. Vernon Dr.

2 - Magical Mystical Garden - 1918 S. Bogart Ct.

A backyard the likes of which you have never seen!  Forest creatures come out of hiding behind the huge basalt rock and they laugh and play in the middle of the night while the unsuspecting owners sleep.  The good elves and the kindly gnomes watch over the animals and keep them safe from harm.  This is a special place where the modern world meets the old forest and you will step away wiser and better from the experience.

Directions from Mt. Vernon Dr. - Go east, Mt Vernon Dr. runs into 19th Ave.  Next road over is Bogart Ct.  Please do not park in cul-de-sac.  Park on 19th and walk the short distance or walkable from Grand Illusion Garden.

3 - Spellbinding Power Garden - 3927 E. 18th Ave.

The sign states “Life Begins in the Garden” and after you visit this lovely couple’s 20 years worth of weekend projects you’ll believe as well.  With over 100 container gardens, this little piece of heaven on earth has something for everyone–Japanese influence, vines overtaking trellises, unique espalier, mature evergreens, rock beds, dahlias, and gargoyles.  The homeowners love animals and wildlife and it shows in every nook and cranny of this pleasing scene.

Directions from S. Bogart Ct - Go east on 19th.  Turn left on Ray.  Turn right on 18th.  Cross Freya with caution.  Proceed down 18th Ave.   Left corner house at the end of the road.

4 - Enchanted Welcome Garden - 3915 E. 17th Ave.

Martha Stewart would love this garden.  Built around the homeowners’ love of entertaining, family, and friends, the landscape has a wonderful welcoming appeal.  The truly impressive oversize deck looks down on the wisteria encrusted outdoor garden room and sunken garden.  This is the type of garden made to house celebrations like weddings, children’s birthday parties, and golden anniversaries.  A special treat the owners are eager to share with you.  Lunch will also be available at this garden at an additional price catered by Vin Rouge and enjoyed in a garden setting.

Directions from E. 18th Ave. - Go west on 18th.  Turn right on Freya.  Turn right on 17th.  Go a short distance.  At this point you can easily park your car and walk to the remaining gardens on the tour.

5 - Charmed Secret Garden - 3924 E. 17th Ave.

This 20-plus-year-old garden is a virtual shaded paradise.  A peaceful and quiet creation surrounded by Japanese maples, conifers, shrub roses, and hosta.  This is a wondrous fairy land and you can well imagine at night when the moon is high in this sky that the fairies come out from behind the flowers and the trees to sing and dance in their fairy circles.  You’re sure to find something magical at every turn.

Directions from 3915 E. 17th Ave.  - Across the street.

6 - Bewitching Spell Garden - 4028 E. 17th Ave.

A work in progress.  A run down lot is being given new life and transformed into a gardener’s delight.  You must check out the 3-tier handcrafted rock retaining wall in the front planted with many interesting specimens.  But remember like any other garden, it ain’t finished until the gardener is pushing up daisies.  Local nursery owners, the Campos’, are turning this garden into their own private paradise and are anxious to share their vision with you.

Directions from 3915 E. 17th Ave. - East down the street, right side of road.

7.  Abracadabra Alacazam Garden - 4125 E. 17th Ave.

A truly magical experience.  The first thing you will notice is the life-size horse statue greeting you as you enter–standing in a field of flowers.  Intriguingly planted container gardens and art pieces will hold your fascination throughout.  Watch your step if you dare venture out to the backyard or you might just end up in the secret pond!  Prominent business woman Nancy is a patron of the arts and is a major support of renowned local artist Bill Sanders who sculptured her dramatic horse and is working on a major new piece for her.  Nancy also donated in honor of her parents the Sanders’ bull moose and trio of timber wolves sculptures prowling the basalt water feature at the Spokane International Airport entrance.

Directions from 3924 E. 4028 E. 17th Ave. - East down the street, left side of road.
