Linda Beutler is a native Oregonian and life-long gardener. Her fascination with clematis began with the purchase of a misnamed plant some 20 years ago, and her personal collection now numbers nearly 300 species and cultivars in her small Portland cottage garden.  In 2004, Timber Press published Linda’s first book, “Gardening With Clematis.” Linda is a Vice President for the International    Clematis Society, and is the first curator of the renowned Rogerson Clematis Collection, with display gardens located south of Portland in Lake Oswego, OR. Linda is also an instructor of horticulture at Clackamas Community College, and writes for “Fine Gardening” and other magazines.  She is a nationally traveled speaker on many gardening topics, but her abiding favorite subject is clematis.  Linda’s second book, “Garden to Vase: Growing and Using Your Own Cut Flowers” was published in 2007 with pictures by Allan Mandell.  Her talk to us in entitled:  “Cold Climate Clematis:  Successful Species and Cultivars for the Frozen North.”  This illustrated lecture features a wide variety of clematis flower styles and colors, with suggestions for clematis cultivation and plant combinations, all featuring clematis hardy to USDA Zone 6 or lower.  There are a clematis hardy to Zone 3!
